Tomorrow is the first day of October, and that means it’s the first day of my Reading Challenge to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

TCT is based right here in the UK, and they aim to provide targeted support dedicated to young people aged 13 to 24 years old. Cancer is the worst. It’s fuckin’ awful, we all know that, by proxy or otherwise. TCT is dedicated to improving the experiences of those living with cancer, boosting the number of positive outcomes, and supporting young people with what can come both during and after their Cancer battle.
Since they were founded back in 1990, Teenage Cancer Trust has helped create 28 specialised units across the UK. They also help fund specialist nurses, clinicians, liaison staff, youth support coordinators, and many other roles within the treatment and support systems.
Advocacy is also at the heart of what they do, campaigning for more accessible diagnostic materials for young people, working with the government and mainline institutions to improve care, and connecting Cancer warriors and survivors across the country, so they know they are not alone.
The Teenage Cancer Trust organises various amazing challenges to help raise funds for their cause. From fitness to football or even gaming challenges, there are loads of ways to get involved if you want to. Now, I haven’t played a video game for ten years, and my joints protest if I take a corner in Tesco’s too quickly. Maybe someday I’ll be able to take one of those on, but until I can do so without pain levels that put me on my arse for days or potential spontaneous combustion, this is how I can do my bit.
The initial challenge was simply to “Read Every Day in October.” But I want to truly push myself. My personal stipulation is that I MUST read five chapters a day, and I may increase that at the end of each week. If anyone out there has any ideas on how to add extra umph to this challenge, feel free to suggest them in the comments or message me… but I’ll only consider/do it if you donate first, hehehe.
How have I turned a charity drive into a hostage situation…
What was I saying? Oh, yeah.
GIVE ME YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And by ME, obviously, I mean this fantastic and vital charity.
Seriously. Look, I know how hard things are for some people right now. The world is a garbage fire, and the cost of living is the sauce and sprinkles on this shit-sundae. But whatever you can give, I know that Teenage Cancer Trust will make it count. Anything is better than nothing, and the charity and I will be eternally grateful.
At the end of the day, they’re an extraordinary group for a really special cause. I’d read the phone book if it meant you’d donate even the smallest amount.
And, ya know, if they still made phone books. Do they still make phone books?
While I go and Google that, you can find my JustGiving link on any of my personal or website’s social media, and I will paste it below and add it to the homepage.
Be well, keep giving and, oh yeah, fuck cancer!
